                                                                                    _MICHELINE LOGAN (BP Group coach based in South Africa.)

                                                                                    A firm believer in the process discipline, Micheline Logan commenced her career in the ICT space long before term “application developer” was coined. She routinely developed systems by listening to what customers asked for and intuiting what they needed. She was lucky enough to work in a company where she helped in developing “bleeding edge” applications in the microprocessor and communications environments, including the testing of world-first prototype hardware for Motorola built for South African Railways.

                                                                                    This early affinity with the customer saw her evolving into the business analysis and project management environments, where she soon acquired the knack of rapid subject matter expertise acquisition, essential for determining pertinent user requirements.

                                                                                    She has worked in a variety of industries and applications, but predominantly in the financial sector. Her early school vacation jobs at a stockbroker’s offices sorting scrip gave her a taste for wholesale and corporate banking. A brief foray as a gilts (bond) dealer at a merchant bank led to her being asked to head up gilts clearing at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and project manager in the development of the first Gilts Clearing House. In the following years she has added considerable retail banking and insurance experience to her portfolio.

                                                                                    Her first forays into process management were made over 20 years ago, when she recognised how process understanding helped to integrate technologies available with the human, unpredictable and undocumented aspects of the business. The added ability to apply appropriate GRC (government, risk and compliance) and quality checks and performance metrics made her an enthusiastic advocate of the process discipline. She researched, selected and attended a CEM Method Master’s workshop in Dubai together with colleague Jennifer van Wyk. The reason for selecting the BP Group course was their established track record, focus on the customer and pragmatic approach. Jennifer and Micheline have completed successive courses to become the first BP Group coaches in Africa.

                                                                                    Along with her passion for the customer, Micheline brings diverse and extensive expertise in industries such as:-

                                                                                    ·         Banking and insurance, transport, utilities, healthcare, engineering and retail.

                                                                                    Some of the process management disciplines where she has expertise are:-

                                                                                    ·         Transaction processing, assets, financial, risk, credit, retail banking, wholesale banking, clearing and settlement, short-term insurance, reinsurance, business development, innovation management, project management, application lifecycle, passenger revenue, retail sales and universal access (telecoms).

                                                                                    Some of the companies where she has worked (often with multiple engagements) include:-

                                                                                    ·         Hill Samuel, Corbank, JSE, Strate, FNB, Standard Bank, Nedbank, General Accident, Liberty, Alexander Forbes, SAA, Putco, Medikredit, PPS, IMS Engineering.

                                                                                    Micheline’s key MDG is 8: “Develop A Global Partnership For Development”, specifically

                                                                                    Target 8F : “In cooperation with the private sector, make available benefits of new technologies, especially information and communications”. Her dissertation was on bridging the digital divide and she served in a DOC working group on telecommunications in 2005.

                                                                                    Micheline is a sixty-something adolescent who enjoys birdwatching, photography and open-water swimming and travels to places where she can indulge in these activities. She lives in Johannesburg.
